Building off of what they learned in 8rd grade, 9th graders add a new level of sophistication to their 9th grade science projects. In addition to describing data quantitatively, kids begin to use their observations to formulate scientific arguments and engage in scientific debate. 9th grade science fair projects may involve kids going beyond testing a scientists can be encouraged to use their results to make predictions about what might happen when the experiment is expanded to test new variables. This fourth grade vocabulary list was built from an analysis of difficult words that appear in basal readers and other books commonly taught in the 9th grade. Those words were then analyzed to see how often they appeared on English Language Arts state tests given in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades.
